[Post from Tom Newton]

"business people who have taken over the publishing houses will focus themselves elsewhere and leave the arts alone again"

The frustration in this quote is palpable. This is a wish of the author, that she wants the publishing houses out of art. Her argument, I believe, is that when business begins to be involved in art, it has a tendency to pervert the author's vision, story, or literary style to make it more accessable to a mass audience. In an ideal world, this wish would be realized. Unfortunately, we live in an imperfect society where business needs art and art needs business. Without art, business would become stale and many people would be out of a job. Without busness, art would never be read by the masses

* Tom, you posted this as a comment, so I made it into it's own post. --Roxi
